What is the Blepharoplasty?

Eyelid aesthetics, namely blepharoplasty, is the name given to all surgical interventions for aesthetic purposes, except for disorders that affect vision and therefore visual quality in the lower or upper lids. Eyelid aesthetics is one of the most frequently applied sub-branches of oculoplastic surgery.
Especially when the effect of gravity is combined with the skin, which begins to lose its elastic structure and loosens in parallel with the advancement of age, sagging and wrinkles may occur. Apart from these, bagging can also be seen with the forward spurting of the lubrication on the lower lids of the eye.
Apart from aging, which is a natural process, factors such as exposure to sunlight on and around the eyelids, sleep disorders, excessive use of alcohol and cigarettes, and air pollution may result in an unesthetic appearance and acceleration of the aging process.
Eyelid aesthetics, which is called blepharoplasty in the medical literature, is applied in order to eliminate the non-aesthetic appearance caused by aging, trauma, genetics and infections in both the lower and upper lids and to give the person a younger appearance.
In lid aesthetic surgeries, sagging, wrinkles, under-eye bags, the formation of lines on the edge of the eye, as well as the removal of age-related drooping in the upper lid and eyebrow area, as well as operations such as eyebrow lifting are performed with various surgical interventions. How to Perform Eyelid Aesthetic?

  1. Excess skin on the eyelid (upper or lower lid) is marked.
  2. If local anesthesia is used, the eyelids are anesthetized and the patient is put to sleep in general anesthesia.
  3. Excess skin tissue is removed and adipose tissue, if any, that causes bagging is removed.
  4. Bleeding control is performed and the incision place is sutured.
  5. The cut place is covered with thin striped tapes and the whole eye is not closed.
  6. Ice compress is applied for the first 24 hours after surgery. During this time, there may be bleeding in the form of leaks. It is natural to have bruises and swelling in the first week.
  7. The eyes should not be touched with water for 1 week. Affixed tapes can be taken on the 2nd and 3rd days. During this period, antibiotic pomades applied 4 times a day.
  8. After the tapes are removed, the eye pod continues to be applied directly to the wound for about a week. Artificial teardrops are dripped into the eye 4 times a day for 1 month.
  9. Sutures in the eyelids are removed at week 1.
  10. Checks are carried out on the first day, in the first week and in the first month.

As with normal aging in all areas of the skin, age-related changes are observed in the eyelids. In the twenties, with the contraction effect of the muscle (orbikularis okuli) that closes the eyelids, lines called goose feet begin to appear around the eye. At the age of 40, sagging and bagging begins on the skin with the effect of gravity.

Almond Eye Surgery

Almond eye surgery is a surgical procedure that removes the signs of aging on the eyelids and around them, and provides a more slanting appearance to the eyes of the person.

Almond eye surgery can be applied to people with tired eyes and small eyes, as well as to anyone who wants to have a younger and livelier appearance. The procedure, which is performed under local anesthesia and in the operating room environment, takes 45 to 60 minutes on average. If there is a problem in the lower or upper eyelid before the procedure, this problem must be eliminated first. Then almond eye surgery is applied. The operation can also be combined with eyelid aesthetics.

Almond eye surgery is performed by stretching (pulling) the outer corner of the eye upwards and outwards and suspending it with a special suture on the bone membrane. As a result of this process, the eyes get a more slanting appearance. Thus, an improvement in the general appearance of the person is aimed. After the operation, the patients do not need to stay in the hospital, they are discharged immediately. In addition, thanks to the special stitches used during the operation, there is no such thing as suture removal afterwards. These sutures dissolve on their own over time.

Brow Lift Surgery

Our eyebrow shape has a complementary effect that adds meaning to our eyes. Although the shape of our eyebrows is innate, changes in the sub-brow tissue that can be experienced over time and various diseases and injuries can cause drooping of the eyebrows. This lowness can affect the aesthetic appearance negatively, as well as cause deterioration in the person’s vision quality.

With brow lift surgery, the aesthetic appearance of the person can be intervened positively and also contribute to the improvement of visual function.
There are many surgical and non-surgical eyebrow lifting methods. The method to be used is decided in line with the anatomical structure and needs of the person. In addition, brow lift surgeries can be combined with eyelid surgeries.

Brow Lift with Botox

Brow lift with botox is one of the most applied non-surgical methods. This operation is performed by calculating the most suitable eyebrow shape for the person. It is applied to this area in personalized doses in a way that will prevent the natural movement of the eyebrow and not cause deterioration in the muscles. During the procedure, botulinum is injected into the predetermined points with a botox needle, which will cause the eyebrows to rise. Since the procedure is a non-surgical application, it takes a very short time. Since the effect of Botox will last for 4 to 6 months on average, it can be applied twice a year.

The Eyebrow Suspension Method

The eyebrow suspension method is applied with local anesthesia as in the classical method. By entering under the skin through the skin, the eyebrow can be hung in the desired position. After both operations, it is aimed to minimize swelling by applying cold compresses to this area at regular intervals. It is normal to experience numbness in the forehead and eyebrow area for a certain period of time, but this is temporary.

What are The Signs of Aging on the Eyelid?

As soon as the signs of aging appear on the eyelid, it gives the person a tired and dull expression. The appearance of these symptoms at an early age causes the person to look older than they are.
Human skin has an elastic structure. However, due to genetic, environmental or age reasons, the skin may lose its elastic structure over time. Some of the excess skin, which has lost its tension on the face, caused by the loss of the elastic structure of the skin over time, may collect on the lower or upper lid and its surroundings.
In addition, excess skin on the upper lid can cause drooping of the upper lid. For these reasons, the first sign of aging is the eyelids and around the eyes.
The signs of aging that are frequently seen on the lower and upper lids are as follows:

  1. Clarification in the lines called goose feet around the eyes,
  2. The appearance of bags under the eyes,
  3. Color changes in the skin under the eyes,
  4. The drooping of the upper lid,
  5. The formation of sagging and wrinkles on the lower and upper lid skin,
  6. Expression of fatigue on the face and eyes.emporary.

How is Eyelid Aesthetics Performed?

Before the application of eyelid aesthetics, the patient is evaluated by the ophthalmologist with various examinations. After this evaluation, it is decided which method will be applied.

Eyelid aesthetic applications generally start with drawings on and around the eyelid in line with the measurements made before the operation. At this point, it is necessary to consider lower and upper eyelid aesthetic surgeries separately.

Upper Eyelid Aesthetics:

Before the upper eyelid aesthetic operation, before the detailed operation plan of the patient is drawn, whether only the skin or the subcutaneous tissue will be intervened, the determination of the fat bags and their collapse and herniation areas, whether there is sagging of the tear gland accompanying these conditions and the presence of upper lid drooping. the presence of droopy eyebrows accompanying the drooping should be determined beforehand. As a result of these determinations, surgery should be planned.
In the operation phase, the area to be intervened is drawn in accordance with the measurements with various drawings and markings beforehand. Tissue removal is performed within the framework of the surgeon’s plan. If deemed necessary by the surgeon, droopy eyelids, lacrimal gland sagging and droopy eyebrows can be corrected simultaneously.
Post-operatively, the incisions made from the eyelid fold line are closed with aesthetic sutures in order to avoid the operation scar.

Lower Eyelid Aesthetics:

Lower eyelid aesthetic surgeries are generally performed for dark under-eye circles, bags and sagging of the lower lid. In the necessary examinations performed before the operation, the cause of the lower bagging, possible looseness in various structures holding the lower lid, the relationship between the lid and the eye, and the state of the tear evacuation system are examined in detail. After this examination, the basic characteristics of the operation to be applied to the patient are decided.
In lower lid aesthetics, fat pads are removed or replaced with incisions made from the inside of the eyelid. In addition, if the surgeon deems necessary, he can intervene on the skin of the skin.
After the operation, the incisions made from the eyelid fold line are closed with aesthetic sutures in order to avoid the operation scar.
